Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a structured, trauma-focused psychotherapy that uses eye movements and imagery-based techniques to help reduce the distress associated with difficult memories and experiences.

While ART shares some features with EMDR, it uses its own distinct protocols and techniques. Clients remain in control throughout the process and do not need to describe every detail of a traumatic experience in order to work with it.

At Shoreline Eating Disorder Center, Dr. Joy Zelikovsky provides Accelerated Resolution Therapy in Westport, Connecticut, with telehealth available throughout Connecticut and Psypact States.

What Can Accelerated Resolution Therapy Help With?

ART & Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders do not always exist in isolation. Trauma, distressing experiences, body-related memories, shame, anxiety, and deeply held beliefs about oneself can sometimes interact with eating disorder symptoms.

When clinically appropriate, ART may be incorporated into eating disorder treatment to address experiences or emotional responses that contribute to ongoing distress.

ART does not replace comprehensive eating disorder treatment or appropriate medical and nutritional care. Instead, it may be one component of an individualized treatment plan.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy in Westport, Connecticut & via Telehealth

Shoreline Eating Disorder Center provides Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) in Westport, Connecticut, serving clients throughout Fairfield County and surrounding communities.

Telehealth appointments are also available throughout Connecticut and, through PSYPACT, to eligible clients located in participating PSYPACT states. PSYPACT allows authorized psychologists to provide telepsychology across state lines in participating jurisdictions, expanding access to specialized care beyond Connecticut.

Because PSYPACT participation varies by state and may change over time, eligibility for telehealth services will be confirmed based on your location at the time of treatment.

If you're interested in ART, we can discuss your concerns, previous treatment experiences, location, and goals to determine whether Accelerated Resolution Therapy may be an appropriate option for you.

ART can be used to address a variety of concerns involving distressing memories, emotional reactions, and patterns that feel difficult to change.

Depending on an individual's needs, ART may be incorporated into treatment for concerns such as:

  • Trauma and distressing memories

  • Anxiety and fear

  • Depression

  • Grief and loss

  • Shame and negative self-beliefs

  • Difficult or painful life experiences

  • Eating disorder-related experiences and beliefs

ART is not appropriate for every person or every clinical concern. Treatment recommendations are individualized based on your symptoms, history, goals, and current needs.

What Is ART Therapy Like?

Brief — ART is designed as a focused therapy. Some clients may work on a specific concern within a small number of sessions, although the number of sessions needed varies depending on the individual and the concerns being addressed.

Directive — ART is more structured than traditional talk therapy. Dr. Joy guides clients through specific exercises and techniques while the client remains in control of their experience and determines what feels meaningful.

Interactive — ART involves active participation from both therapist and client. Dr. Joy provides guidance throughout the process, and conversation can be incorporated alongside ART techniques when helpful.
