Frequently Asked Questions
-
Shoreline Eating Disorder Center is a private-pay practice and does not participate with insurance plans.
Remaining independent from insurance allows treatment to be guided by clinical need rather than insurance requirements. This means recommendations about session frequency, treatment approach, and length of care are based on what is most beneficial for you, not what an insurance company will authorize.
Payment is due at the time of service.
-
Possibly.
Many insurance plans offer out-of-network reimbursement for mental health services. Upon request, I can provide a superbill that you may submit directly to your insurance company.
Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, so I recommend contacting your insurance carrier to learn more about your specific benefits.

-
No.
Many people struggle with food, body image, or eating behaviors without meeting the criteria for a formal diagnosis.
If food, movement, or body image is taking up more space in your life than you'd like, therapy may still be appropriate.
-
Item descriptionThere is no predetermined timeline.
Some clients benefit from short-term support around a specific concern, while others engage in longer-term treatment for more complex or longstanding eating disorders.
Treatment recommendations are individualized and reviewed collaboratively throughout therapy.
-
Absolutely.
Eating disorder treatment is often most effective when providers collaborate.
With your written permission, I routinely coordinate care with physicians, psychiatrists, dietitians, therapists, schools, family members, or other healthcare professionals involved in your treatment.
-
Whenever possible, I strive to help clients recover in the least restrictive setting that can safely and effectively meet their needs.
I routinely incorporate harm reduction principles into eating disorder treatment, recognizing that recovery is not always linear and that meaningful progress can occur even when full recovery feels out of reach. Together, we work to reduce risk, improve quality of life, and move toward sustainable change while respecting each person's unique circumstances and readiness for change.
At the same time, client safety is always the highest priority. If outpatient therapy is no longer the safest or most effective level of care, I will discuss my clinical recommendations openly and collaboratively. This may include increased medical monitoring, additional members of the treatment team, more intensive outpatient services, or referral to a higher level of care such as Intensive Outpatient (IOP), Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Residential, or Inpatient treatment.
My goal is never to remove autonomy, but to work collaboratively to identify the level of support that best promotes both safety and long-term recovery.
